First decision

Three questions before you choose.

Why are you moving?Employment, remote work, own income, higher education, family, innovation or qualifying investment?
Where is the evidence?Employer, income stream, education provider, investment or family link—and can each be documented independently?
What is your time horizon?A consular residence visa, a short-term stay, an AIMA residence permit and a future nationality application are different legal events.

Important distinctions

Do not plan a move from old marketing claims.

Investment

Purchasing Portuguese real estate is not a new qualifying ARI / Golden Visa route.

Employment

Legacy “expression of interest” employment pathways were revoked for new applications in June 2024.

Family

The 2025 family reunification amendment includes waiting-period rules and important exceptions.
